## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT WAS TAKING OFF ON A GRASS STRIP, WITH A LARGE TREE APPROXIMATELY 1000 FEET FROM THE END OF THE GRASS STRIP. PILOT DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH AIRSPEED TO CLIMB OVER THE TREE, SO HE MADE A LEFT TURN TO AVOID TREE. DURING THE LEFT TURN THE AIRCRAFT STALLED AND HE LANDED IN SMALL CLEARING. THE AIRCRAFT CONTACTED THE GROUND HARD ENOUGH TO BREAK OFF THE NOSE GEAR AND SPIN AROUND WITH THE TAIL SECTION UP AGAINST A ROW OF TREES. THE PILOT SUFFERED AN EYE INJURY AND POSSIBLE BACK STRAIN. HE WAS AIR LIFTED TO NORTH MEMORIAL HOSPITAL AFTER BEING TAKEN TO ST. CROIX MEDICAL CENTER BY AMBULANCE. PILOT HAS BEEN UNCOOPERATIVE IN RESPONDING TO REQUESTS BY THIS OFFICE.^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI01LA157](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI01LA157), Jun 10, 2001: Cessna 150D (N5919T), Milltown, WI, substantial damage. Probable cause: The stall/mush encountered by the pilot during that takeoff. Factors were the pilot's excessive lowering of the flaps during the takeoff and the trees.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
