## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JUNE 3, 2001, CESSNA 172RG, N9877B, PILOTED BY A PRIVATE PILOT, DEPARTED WAUKEGAN AIRPORT, WAUKEGAN, IL FOR A PART 91 PERSONAL FLIGHT TO OSHKOSH, WISCONSIN. WHEN THE LANDING GEAR WAS LOWERED FOR LANDING, THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR DID NOT LOCK INTO POSITION. THE PILOT RETURNED TO WAUKEGAN AIRPORT. SEVERAL ATTEMPTS WERE MADE TO LOCK THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR IN THE DOWN AND LOCKED POSITION, WITHOUT SUCCESS. THE PILOT RETRACTED THE LANDING GEAR AND LANDED. NO INJURIES, NO FIRE, THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. NOTHING FOLLOWS.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
