## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(.19) ON JUNE 24, 2001, ABOUT 1930 HOURS PACIFIC DAYLIGHT TIME, A HUGHES 269A, N8724F, OPERATED BY DEL RIO AVIATION OF PASO ROBLES, CALIFORNIA, SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE DURING AN INSTRUCTIONAL MANEUVER AT PASO ROBLES. THE CERTIFIED FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES AND THE STUDENT PILOT WAS NOT INJURED. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED FOR THE FLIGHT OPERATING UNDER 14 CFR PART 91, AND NO FLIGHT PLAN WAS FILED. THE INSTRUCTIONAL FLIGHT ORIGINATED ABOUT 1845, AND WAS PRACTICING AUTOROTATIONS WHEN A HARD LANDING OCCURRED. THE MAIN ROTOR BLADES SEVERED THE TAIL BOOM AND THE HELICOPTER ROLLED OVER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX01LA219](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX01LA219), Jun 25, 2001: Hughes 269A (N8724F), Paso Robles, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's failure to maintain rotor rpm during a practice autorotational landing, which resulted in a hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
