## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23)ON JULY 7, 2001 USA89 MADE AN EMERGENCY LANDING AT IND. THE FLIGHT WAS ENROUTE FROM PIT TO SAN WHEN AN ACRID SMELL ENTERED THE COCKPIT. THE LEFT ENGINE HAD A VIBRATION OF 5.0. THE THROTTLE WAS RETARDED AND THE VIBRATION SUBSIDED. THE LEFT ENGINE EXPERIENCED A SERIES OF COMPRESSOR STALLS. MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL REPLACED THE BLEED VALVE CONTROL UNIT FOR THE LEFT ENGINE. THE SMELL DID NOT RETURN DURING ENGINE RUN UP. THE SOURCE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
