## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JULY 16, 2001, APPROXIMATELY 1130 MOUNTAIN DAYLIGHT TIME, A DIAMOND DA-20-C-1, N981CT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED WHEN IT COLLIDED WITH TERRAIN DURING LANDING AT PROVO, UT. AIRPORT. THE ONLY OCCUPANT OF THE AIRCRAFT WAS A STUDENT PILOT WHO WAS NOT INJURED. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED. THE STUDENT WAS RETURNING FROM A CROSS-COUNTRY FLIGHT AND WAS ATTEMPTING A LANDING ON RUNWAY 13. THE WIND WAS FROM 140 DEGREES AT 10 KNOTS, WITH GUSTS UP TO 15 KNOTS. WHEN THE AIRPLANE TOUCHED DOWN, IT BOUNCED AND THE PILOT APPLIED FULL POWER TO ABORT LANDING AND MAKE ANOTHER GO AROUND WHEN THE STUDENT LOST CONTROL. WITNESSES SAID THE AIRPLANE ASSUMED AN EXTREME HIGH NOSE PITCH ATTITUDE, STALLED AND IMPACTED THE GROUND 100 FEET FROM RIGHT SIDE OF RUNWAY 13.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DEN01LA122](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DEN01LA122), Jul 16, 2001: Diamond Aircraft Industries DA 20C-1 (N981CT), Provo, UT, substantial damage. Probable cause: the inadvertent stall by the pilot during an aborted landing. Contributing factors were an excessive flare, premature retraction of the flaps, and gusty wind conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
