## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) TAIL STRIKE WAS A RESULT OF A POSSIBLE FLAWED COCKPIT PROCEDURE IN DETERMINING AND SETTING APPROACH AND LANDING SPEEDS. SECOND OFFICER PROPERLY DETERMINED THE AIRCRAFT WEIGHT FOR LANDING AND PASSED THE INFORMATION TO THE FIRST OFFICER WHO IS THE ONE TO DETERMINE THE LANDING SPEED FROM A FLIP CHART. HE FLIPPED TO THE WRONG WEIGHT AND WAS OFF BY MORE THAN 80,000 LBS WHICH GAVE A SPEED FOURTEEN KNOTS SLOWER THAN THE PROPER SPEED AND A HIGHER DECK ANGLE WHICH CAUSE THE TAIL STRIKE. THE POI REPORTED THAT THE INFORMATION PROVIDED BY THE FLIGHT CREW WAS UP FRONT AND VERY HELPFUL TO DETERMINE IF THERE NEEDS TO BE A CHANGE IN THE PROCEDURES FOR DETERMINING THE APPROACH AND LANDING SPEEDS. THE INCIDENT WAS CLASSIFIED AS A MINOR DAMAGE INCIDENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
