## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DURING DESCENT INTO DETROIT, AND WITH THE "FASTEN SEAT BELT" LIGHT ON, ONE PASSENGER, A COMMUTING FLIGHT ATTENDANT, JOYCE FLYNN, LEFT HER SEAT TO GO INTO THE AFT LAVATORY. JUST AFTER THE PASSENGER DEPARTED THE LAVATORY AND WHILE SHE WAS RETURNING TO HER SEAT, THE AIRCRAFT ENCOUNTERED MODERATE TURBULANCE. ONE TURBULENCE ENCOUNTER CAUSED THE PASSENGER TO LIFT INTO THE AIR AND COME DOWN HARD ON THE FLOOR, AND SUSTAIN A BROKEN ANKLE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI01LA245](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI01LA245), Jul 25, 2001: McDonnell Douglas DC-9-51 (N780NC), Detroit, MI, no damage. Probable cause: The passenger (an off duty flight attendant) disregarded the flight crews warning regarding turbulence along with the seat belt sign which had been turned on.

## Other reports on N780NC (2)

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
