## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JULY 28, 2001 AT 05:45Z INSPECTOR JERALD E. WOMICK WAS CONTACTED BY THE FAA GREAT LAKES REGIONAL CONTROL CENTER CONCERNING AN ACCIDENT THAT WAS REPORTED TO THEM ON JULY 27, 2001 AT 23:41Z. UPON ARRIVING AT THE SCENE THE AIRCRAFT WAS FOUND UPSIDE DOWN, THE RIGHT WING TWISTED AND THE EMPENNAGE AND VERTICAL STABILIZER DAMAGED. THE PROPELLER HAD ONLY ONE OF THE TWO BLADES DAMAGED AND THE MAIN GEAR APPEARED NOT TO HAVE IMPACTED THE GROUND. FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE CARBURETOR THROTTLE CONTROL CABLE WAS DISCONNECTED FROM THE THROTTLE LINKAGE AT THE CARBURETOR UNIT. THE PILOT STATEMENT REVEALED THAT THE PILOT HAD BEEN WORKING ON THIS CARBURETOR AND JUST BEFORE THE ACCIDENT THE COCKPIT THROTTLE CONTROL HAD NO EFFECT ON THE ENGINE AS IT WENT TO IDLE. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE TRIED TO MAKE A LANDING AT A SMALL PRIVATE AIRPORT BUT DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH ALTITUDE AND THE AIRCRAFT STALLED AND IMPACTED THE GROUND. (SEE INSPECTORS STATEMENT ATTACHMENT).

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC01LA192](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC01LA192), Jul 27, 2001: Montgomery Teenie Two (N6790), Cambridge, OH, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's improper maintenance which resulted in the engine retarding to idle, and subsequent forced landing. A factor was the tall grass in the field where the forced landing was performed.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
