## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JULY 27, 2001 AT 1851 HOURS PDT, A RV-6A, N131LH, MADE A HARD LANDING ON RUNWAY 25 AT HAWTHORNE AIRPORT (HHR). THE AIRCRAFT RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE LEFT WING, LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR, NOSE GEAR, AND PROPELLER. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT DURING THE LANDING FLARE HE EXPERIENCED A WIND SHEAR OR WIND GUST WHICH LIFTED THE RIGHT WING CAUSING THE LEFT WING TO HIT THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE ADDED POWER BUT WAS UNABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE AIRPLANE BEFORE IT MADE CONTACT WITH THE GROUND. THE PILOT AND PASSENGER WERE NOT INJURED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX01LA264](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX01LA264), Jul 28, 2001: Williams RV-6A (N131LH), Hawthorne, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain control of his airplane during the landing flare.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
