THE PERSONAL FLIGHT WAS OPERATING UNDER 14 CFR PART 91. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. NO FLIGHT PLAN WAS ON FILE. THE PILOT SUSTAINED SERIOUS INJURIES. THE LOCAL FLIGHT DEPARTED FROM FBL AT TIME UNKNOWN AND WAS LANDING AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. (-23) WHILE ATTEMPTING TO LAND ON RWY 20, THE PILOT STATED THAT HE FELT THE A/C LIFT AND NOTICED HE WAS GAINING ALTITUDE INSTEAD OF DESCENDING AND FELT HE WAS RUNNING OUT OF RUNWAY. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A 270 TURN TO THE LEFT AND LAND ON RWY 30 THE A/C STALLED, THE LEFT WING STRUCK THE GROUND CAUSING THE A/C TO SOMERSAULT AND CRASH. THE PILOT SUSTAINED SERIOUS INJURIES TO THE BACK. AN ON SITE INVESTIGATION OF THE A/C FOUND NO REASON TO SUPECT A/C MECHANICAL PROBLEMS TO BE THE CAUSE OF THIS ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI01LA250](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI01LA250), Jul 29, 2001: Burkhart Grob G102 STD Astir III (N3837U), Faribault, MN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain adequate airspeed during the landing which resulted in a stall.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong.
