## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT STATED THAT THE GROUND ADJUSTABLE PROPELLER WAS SET AT TOO COURSE PITCH AND WAS AFFECTING CLIMB PERFORMANCE. HE ADJUSTED THE PROPELLER TO A FINER PITCH. ON TAKEOFF, HE DISVOVERED IT WAS SET TOO FINE AS THE ENGINE WAS REACING MAXIMUM RPM BUT WASN'T PRODUCING THE DESIRED THRUST. THE PILOT WAS AIRBORNE AND ATTEMPTED TO SET THE AIRPLANE DOWN NEAR THE FAR END OF THE RUNWAY. THERE WAS A CROSSWIND FROM THE LEFT AND ON THE ROLLOUT, THE AIRPLANE GROUND LOOPED. THE HARD LANDING AND GROUND LOOP CAUSED THE PROPELLER TO STRIKE THE GROUND AND THE LANDING GEAR BROKE OFF THE AIRPLANE. THE FUSELAGE WAS TWISTED NEAR THE TAIL. THE PILOT AND SOLE OCCUPANT WERE NOT INJURED. (.19) ON AUGUST 6, 2001, AT 0830 MOUNTAIN DAYLIGHT TIME, A GRICE AVID FLYER, N312GR, COLLIDED WITH THE TERRAIN DURING TAKEOFF FROM RUNWAY 14 (4,498 FEET X 60 FEET) AT THE BELL FOURCHE MUNICIPAL AIRPORT, BELLE FOURCHE, SOUTH DAKOTA. THE PILOT REPORTED THE ENGINE AND PROPELLER WERE NOT PRODUCING FULL POWER ON TAKEOFF. THE PRIVATE PILOT WAS NOT INJURED AND THE AIRPLANE WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED. THE 14 CFR PART 91 FLIGHT WAS OPERATING IN VISUAL METE OROLOGICAL CONDITIONS WITHOUT A FLIGHT PLAN. THE LOCAL FLIGHT WAS ORIGINATING AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
