## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON AUGUST 15, 2001, AT APPROXIMATELY 1100, MR. ROY E. MONKELL ON APPROACH TO DUJ RUNWAY 28 SELECTED GEAR DOWN ON HIS PA-28R-180. THE MAIN GEAR CAME DOWN AND INDICATED SAFE BUT THE NOSE GEAR DID NOT INDICATE SAFE. MR. MONKELL FOLLOWED THE EMERGENCY CHECKLIST AND RECYCLED GEAR SEVERAL TIMES WITH NO AVAIL. MR. MONKELL ALSO HAD ANOTHER PILOT LOOK AT THE NOSE GEAR FOR EXTENSION AND WAS TOLD THAT IT APPEARED THAT THE NOSE GEAR STARTED TO COME OUT OF THE WELL BUT IT DID NOT EXTEND TO THE DOWN AND LOCKED POSITION. MR. MONKELL THEN ELECTED TO SELECT THE GEAR UP AND LAND ON THE GRASS PARALLEL TO RUNWAY 28. MR. MONKELL LANDED THE AIRCRAFT GEAR UP ON THE GRASS WITH MINIMAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT. THIS INCIDENT IS CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
