## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DEPARTED RUNWAY 31 AT DSM WITH THUNDERSTORMS IN THE VICINITY. AFTER TAKE OFF (FLAPS 8), WE COMMENCED A LEFT TURN TO AVOID THE STORMS. AT ACCELERATION ALTITUDE, THE FLAPS WERE SELECTED TO (0) DEG. AND WE IMMEDIATELY RECEIVED A FLAPS FAIL AND THE ASSOCIATED CAUTIONS. THE FLAPS WERE STUCK @ 8 DEG. WE FOLLOWED THE CFM PROCEDURES, CALLED DISPATCH AND OPS, LEVELED AT 10,000 FT. WE TOLD DSM APP THAT WE WOULD BE RETURNING TO DSM. THERE WAS A BREAK IN THE THUNDERSTORMS AND EVEN WITH AN OVER WEIGHT LANDING IT WAS DECIDED TO RETURN. LANDING WAS SMOOTH AND UNEVENTFUL.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
