## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT STATED THAT ON THE FIRST ATTEMPT TO EXTEND THE GEAR, HE HEARD A POP. HE RECYCLED THE GEAR TO THE UP POSITION AND HEARD MORE POPPING AND GRINDING. HE THEN RE-EXTENDED THE GEAR DOWN AND HEARD POPPING AND GRINDING AGAIN. HE THEN MADE A FLY BY OF THE TOWER. THE TOWER STATED THAT THE GEAR WAS PARTIALLY DOWN. THE PILOT TRIED THE EMERGENCY EXTENSION PROCEDURE AND FOUND THE HANDLE JAMMED. HE THEN LANDED THE AIRCRAFT WITH THE GEAR UP. INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE LEFT FORWARD MAIN GEAR DOOR DID NOT RELEASE PROPERLY WHEN THE GEAR WAS SELECTED TO THE DOWN POSITION. THE SHEAR ROD MECHANISM THAT IS INSTALLED ON THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR FORWARD DOOR DID NOT OPERATE PROPERLY TO RELEASE THE DOORS. THE MECHANISM WAS FOUND TO BE CORRODED WITH RUST AND NOT ALLOWING IT TO MOVE TO SHEAR THE PIN AND FREE THE DOORS. THE OPERATOR HAS ADDRESSED THIS PROBLEM BY MORE FREQUENT INSPECTION AND LUBRICATION OF THE SYSTEM.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
