## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) BETWEEN LOADS, WHILE MANEUVERING FOR UNKNOWN REASONS, THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK A 500 FOOT LIGHTED AND CHARTED TRANSMISSION TOWER IN THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY OF THE FIELDS THAT THE AIRMAN WAS WORKING. THE AIRMAN WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE AREA AND KNOWN TO THE COMMUNITY. THE LEFT WINGS STRUCK THE TOWER APPROXIMATELY FIVE FEET FROM THE TOP ON A SOUTHWEST HEADING AND SHED PIECES OF THE WINGS WHILE IT CONTINUED TO THE IMPACT SITE APPROXIMATELY 700 FEET TO THE SOUTHWEST. THERE WAS NO POST IMPACT FIRE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW01LA203](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW01LA203), Sep 5, 2001: Grumman G-164B (N48655), Lydia, LA, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: the pilot's failure to maintain clearance with a marked tower while maneuvering.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
