## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) FLIGHT AIP511 FROM ABQ TO DFW WAS A CARGO FLIGHT WITH NO PASSENGERS BUT DID HAVE LIVE ANIMALS. THE PILOT AND FLIGHT OBSERVER SMELLED FUMES FROM ELECTRICAL WIRING AND SAW A SMALL AMOUNT OF SMOKE IN THE COCKPIT. THEY DONNED OXYGEN MASKS AND TRIED TO IDENTIFY THE SOURCE OF THE SMOKE AS THEY DEPRESSURIZED THE AIRCRAFT AND DESCENDED FOR A PRECAUTIONARY LANDING. THEY DID NOT USE THEIR SMOKE GOGGLES, THE SMOKE WAS VERY THIN AND IT WAS GONE BY THE TIME THEY COMPLETED AN INSTRUMENT DESCENT AND APPROACH AT CHILDRESS TX. THERE WERE NO APPARENT DAMAGES OR INJURIES. THE CITY POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT MET THE AIRCRAFT ON THE GROUND. A MECHANIC IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AS THE VENTILATION FAN MOTOR IN THE AIRCONDITIONING SYSTEM AND COMPLIED WITH THE MEL TO RETURN THE AIRPLANE TO SERVICE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
