## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 10/07/2001, AT APPROXIMATELY 1356 HOURS EST, N230HB WAS CLEARED AND LANDED ON RUNWAY 33 AT GABRESKI AIRPORT. THE PILOT DECIDED TO LAND LONG AND NOT ON THE NUMBERS TO EXPEDITE THE TIME ON THE RUNWAY, BECAUSE HE WAS AWARE HOW BUSY THE TOWER WAS WITH OTHER TRAFFIC. THE PILOT TAXIED OFF ONTO TAXIWAY "C". ONCE ON TAXIWAY "C", THE TOWER CLEARED N230HB TO CROSS RUNWAY 01 AND PROCEED TO THE RAMP. DUE TO THE STRONG WINDS THE PILOT PUT ON HIS TAIL WHEEL LOCK AND MADE SLIGHT "S" TURNS TO CHECK FOR TAXI OBSTRUCTIONS. THE PILOT DID NOT SEE N224HP HOLDING SHORT OF RUNWAY 01 UNTIL HE WAS VERY CLOSE. THE PILOT ASSUMED THAT IF THE TOWER CLEARED HIM TO THE RAMP, THAT THERE WOULD BE NO OTHER AIRCRAFT HOLDING SHORT OF RUNWAY 01. MR. BOK SAW N224HP AT THE LAST MINUTE AND STEPPED HARD ON THE BRAKES OF HIS AIRCRAFT WHICH CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO NOSE OVER AND THE PROPELLER TO STRIKE THE GROUND. AS THE PROPELLER STRUCK THE GROUND THE AIRCRAFT VEERED LEFT AND THE LEFT WING IMPACTED THE TAIL OF N224HP CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC02LA006](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC02LA006), Oct 7, 2001: Bok Lazer (N230HB), W Hampton Beach, NY, minor damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate lookout during the taxi.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
