## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON OCTOBER 15, 2001, AT ABOUT 1600 CDT, A CESSNA 206, N5206U, EXITED THE END OF THE RUNWAY UPON LANDING AND CAME TO REST IN A DITCH AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY AT THE EAGLE'S NEST AIRPORT IN MIDLOTHIAN, TX. THE AIRCRAFT WAS BEING FLOWN BY THE OWNER, MR. THOMAS LEE PORTER, WHO WAS BASED AT THE EAGLE'S NEST AIRPORT. THE LEFT WING OF THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED, AND THE NOSE WHEEL WAS BROKEN OFF OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE WINDS WERE REPORTED TO THE PILOT AS BEING OUT OF THE WEST AT ABOUT 9 KTS AT THE REDBIRD AIRPORT, WHICH WAS THE CLOSEST REPORTING STATION. THE PILOT STATED THAT THE LANDING APPEARED TO BE NORMAL WITH NO CONTROL PROBLEMS UNTIL HE ATTEMPTED TO TURN OFF THE RUNWAY AT THE END. HE STATED THAT A GUST OF WIND CAUGHT THE AIRCRAFT AND HE LOST CONTROL AT THAT TIME.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW02LA015](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW02LA015), Oct 15, 2001: Cessna 206 (N5206U), Midlothian, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's failure to maintain control of the aircraft while taxiing from a landing. A contributing factor was the gusty wind conditions.

## Other reports on N5206U (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19830521028979I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19830521028979I), May 21, 1983: Cessna 206CESSNA (N5206U), Crane, TX. Engine lost manifold pressure and power. Emergency landing. Found end of throttle cable broken at end of the shaft.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
