## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT DETECTED A LOW OIL PRESSURE INDICATION AND DECIDED TO MAKE AN IMMEDIATE PRECAUTIONARY LANDING AT INDEPENDENCE, MISSOURI (3IP), AS THE AIRPORT HAD JUST BEEN OVERFLOWN. DURING THE LANDING APPROACH, THE RADIOS FAILED AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WAS NOTED AS NOT FUNCTIONING. A SAFE LANDING WAS ACCOMPLISHED AND MAINTANANCE PERSONNEL WERE SUMMONED. INTERVIEW OF THE MECHANIC REVEALED THAT THE FIELD TERMINAL TO THE ALTERNATOR HAD FAILED, DISABLING THE ALTERNATOR. THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE IS ELECTRICAL, NOT DIRECT READING, AND DIMINISHING BATTERY POWER CAUSED THE ERRONEOUS LOW OIL PRESSURE INDICATION. PILOT'S ACTIONS WERE APPROPRIATE FOR THE APPARENT CIRCUMSTANCE INDICATED BY THE ENGINE OIL PRESSURE INSTRUMENT. INCIDENT NUMBER CE2002IGA0007

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
