## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON OCTOBER 29, 2001, AT APPROXIMATELY 16:00 HOURS, MR. JOSEPH MURRER, A CERTIFICATED PILOT, WAS ACTING AS PILOT-IN-COMMAND AND SOLE OCCUPANT OF A CESSNA 310Q MULTI ENGINE AIRCRAFT. IN AN INTERVIEW WIHT MR. MURRER, HE INDICATED THAT ON TAKEOFF HE SELECTED GEAR UP AND HEARD A LOUD BANG IN THE AREA OF THE NOSE GEAR. HE SELECTED TO FLY AROUND A PERIOD OF TIME TO PERFORM THE EMERGENCY CHECKLIST LANDING GEAR MANUAL EXTENSION. THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. HE THEN RETURNED TO WASHINGTON COUNTY AIRPORT AND CONDUCTED A FLYBY WITH MAINTENANCE PEOPLE IN COMMUNICATION. THE NOSE LANDING GEAR WAS HANGING AND NOT DOWN AND LOCKED. MR. MURRER MADE AN EMERGENCY LANDING ON THE MAINS AND COLLAPSED NOSE GEAR. THE AIRCRAFT WAS EXAMINED ON OCTOBER 30, 2001, AND FOUND TO HAVE A BROKEN NOSE GEAR IDLER BELLCRANK. THIS ALLOWED THE FIRST TUBE ASSEMBLY FROM THE GEARBOX TO SEPARATE AND LAY ON THE FLOOR AND COMPLETE DISCONNECT OF THE REMAINING NOSE GEAR LINKAGE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
