## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT DURING LANDING ROLL OUT NOTICED THAT HE WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN AT THE NORMAL RATE. HE STATED THAT THE THROTTLE WAS ALL THE WAY BACK AND IT STILL HAD 1500 RPM. HE TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO GET THE RPM DOWN TO NORMAL WITHOUT SUCCESS. HE MADE A QUICK DECISION NOT TO CUT THE MIXTURE AND RUN OFF THE END OF THE RUNWAY BUT TO DO A GO-AROUND. HE SAID THAT THE AIRCRAFT ACCELERATED SLOWLY, HE NOTED THE MANIFOLD PRESSURE AT FULL THROTTLE WAS ONLY 24 TO 25 INCHES. THE NORMAL READING SHOULD BE ALMOST 27 INCHES FOR FULL POWER. WHEN THE AIRCRAFT NEARED THE SNOW BERM AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY FULL FLAPS WERE APPLIED IN AN EFFORT TO MISS THE BERM. THE AIRCRAFT DID NOT CLEAR THE BERM SHEARING THE LANDING GEAR. THEN SKIDDING, CARTWHEELING AND BURSTING INTO FLAME SOME DISTANCE FROM THE RUNWAY END. THE PILOT RECEIVED SECOND AND THIRD DEGREE BURNS OVER 20% TO 30% OF HIS BODY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC02LA004](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC02LA004), Oct 30, 2001: Piper PA-32-260 (N5573J), Port Heiden, AK, destroyed. Probable cause: The pilot's delay in aborting the landing. Factors in the accident were snow and ice on the runway surface, and the pilot's excessive taxi speed.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
