## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) FOLLOWING THE PILOT'S THIRD LOW LEVEL FAST SPEED PASS, ABOUT 15 FEET OVER THE RUNWAY, HE PULLED THE AIRCRAFT UP INTO A CLIMB AND APPEARED TO ENTER AN AEROBATIC LOOP MANEUVER. AT THE TOP OF THE LOOP, INVERTED, THE AIRCRAFT ROLLED TO ITS RIGHT, BACK TO INVERTED, AND CONTINUED THE APPARENT LOOP MANEUVER. AT THIS POINT IT APPEARED THAT THE AIRCRAFT HAD INSUFFICIENT ENERGY TO COMPLETE THE LOOP MANEUVER, THE AIRCRAFT WAS THEN ROLLED BACK TO UPRIGHT, THE NOSE CAME QUICKLY DOWN TO ALMOST VERTICAL, AS THOUGH STALLED. JUST BEFORE GROUND IMPACT THE ENGINE WENT RAPIDLY TO IDLE. THE AIRCRAFT CRASHED IN A NOSE LOW ATTITUDE, AND CAME TO REST UPRIGHT 10 FEET FROM THE REAR OF THE IMPACT AREA, AND ABOUT 30 FEET FROM A HOUSE 30 YARDS OFF THE RUNWAY. ALL CONTROLS WERE CHECKED AND FOUND TO BE OPERATIONAL, NO FAILURE OF AIRCRAFT COMPONENTS APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN CAUSAL OR CONTRIBUTING.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ATL02LA009](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ATL02LA009), Nov 3, 2001: Bass Moni (N117JB), Locust Grove, GA, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain airspeed during a low-altitude aerobatic maneuver, which resulted in an inadvertent stall/spin and subsequent uncontrolled descent into terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
