THE AIRCRAFT WAS LANDING AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. ACCORDING TO DECATUR AIRPORT OFFICIALS, THE AIRPLANE WAS CLEARED FOR A STOP-AND-GO LANDING ON RUNWAY 12, AND DURING THE LANDING ROLL THE AIRCRAFT NOSED DOWN IMPACTING THE RUNWAY SURFACE. AFTER TOUCHDOWN, THE AIRCRAFT TRAVELED A SHORT DISTANCE WHEN THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR ADDED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES AND THE AIRCRAFT NOSED DOWN, STRIKING THE PROPELLER, SPINNER, AND DAMAGING THE RIGHT WING TIP. THE PILOTS THEN EXITED THE AIRCRAFT AND LOWERED THE AIRCRAFT BACK ON TO THE TAIL. NO OTHER INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED BY THE TWO OCCUPANTS ABOARD THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI02LA032](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI02LA032), Nov 5, 2001: Piper PA-15 (N4576H), Decatur, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The excessive braking performed by the flight instructor.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
