## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AS THE PILOT REDUCED COLLECTIVE PITCH ON FINAL APPROACH FOR LANDING, N2 AND ROTOR RPM DECREASED AND STABILIZED AT ABOUT 96%, WITH THE LOW RPM LIGHT AND AUDIO ACTIVATED. WHEN THE PILOT REDUCED COLLECTIVE PITCH AGAIN RPM FURTHER DEGRADED TO JUST ABOVE 90% AND STABILIZED AGAIN. AT APPROXIMATELY 20 TO 30 FT. ABOVE LANDING PAD THE PILOT INCREASED COLLECTIVE TO CUSHION THE LANDING, BUT RPM RAPIDLY DETERIORATED RESULTING IN A HARD LANDING AND SUBSEQUENT ROLL TO THE LEFT. PILOT STATED THAT DURING TRAINING AT THE FACTORY AND AT SLC, THAT WHEN THE COLLECTIVE WAS LOWERED ON THE GROUND AFTER LANDING THE N2 AND ROTOR RPM WOULD DECAY MOMENTARILY, THEN RECOVER. FACTORY WAS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DEN02LA010](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DEN02LA010), Nov 9, 2001: Agusta A119 (N119RX), Ogden, UT, destroyed. Probable cause: improper rigging of the rotary variable differential transformer by the manufacturer, resulting in incorrect fuel scheduling to the fuel control unit.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
