## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DURING HIGH-SPEED TAXI TESTING AFTER COMPLETE OVERHAUL OF AIRFRAME AND ENGINE, AIRCRAFT BECAME AIRBORNE. DECIDED TO CONTINUE AROUND THE PATTERN. AT ABOUT 200 FEET MSL OFF DEPARTURE END OF RUNWAY, ENGINE QUIT WITHOUT WARNING. TURNED TO LAND ON HIGHWAY ALONGSIDE THE AIRPORT. TRUCK CAME OVER THE RISE IN THE ROAD SO PILOT TURNED TO LAND IN SAGE BRUSH. LEFT WING TIP CONTACTED TREE LIMB, AIRCRAFT YAWED LEFT AND CONTACTED GROUND. LANDING GEAR FAILED, THEN RIGHT WING TIP STRUCK GROUND BENDING THE SPAR. POST LANDING INSPECTION DETERMINED BOTH MAGNETO SWITCHES IN "OFF" CONDITION. PILOT HAS NO RECOLLECTION OF TURNING MAGNETOS "OFF".

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA02LA013](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA02LA013), Nov 13, 2001: Piper PA-18-150 (N5762A), Brewster, WA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The magneto was inadvertently switched off by the pilot during the climb. A tree was a factor.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
