## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT MADE A PRECAUTIONARY LANDING IN A REMOTE AREA BECAUSE MAIN FUEL TANK TRANSFER PUMPS WERE NOT TRANSFERRING FUEL TO THE SUPPLY TANK (LOW FUEL QUANTITY LIGHT). IT TOOK 10 HOURS TO REPAIR THE AIRCRAFT. THE PILOT TOOK OFF AT 0100 HOURS. THE CONDITIONS WERE DARK WITH NO HORIZON AND POSSIBLE THIN GROUND FOG IN THE AREA. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE TERRAIN 1 1/2 MILES FROM THE POINT OF TAKEOFF IN LEVEL ATTITUDE AND WITH A FLAT ANGLE OF IMPACT. THE LEFT SKID RUPTURED THE FUEL CELL. A POST CRASH FIRE ENSUED. THE AIRCRAFT TUMBLED FORWARD AND ROLLED DOWN A HILL INTO A GULLEY. THE PILOT REMAINED RESTRAINED IN HIS AIRCRAFT SEAT, WEARING A HELMET. THE PILOT THEN REMOVED HIMSELF FROM THE AIRCRAFT WRECKAGE. THE PILOTS LEFT LEG WAS AMPUTATED BELOW THE KNEE AND SUSTAINED SERIOUS INJURY TO THE RIGHT LEG. PILOT DUTY TIME WAS 19 HOURS AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA02LA014](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA02LA014), Nov 14, 2001: Bölkow BO 105 LS (N93LF), Mud Lake, ID, destroyed. Probable cause: Pilot's failure to maintain adequate separation from terrain during the initial climb. Factors include spatial disorientation and a dark moonless night.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
