## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON NOVEMBER 16, 2001, PILOT FLOYD BOWEN DEPARTED MONTROSE, CO, FOR PLACERVILLE, CA, IN HIS CESSNA 210, N210GB. SHORTLY AFTER TAKEOFF, HE SAID THE ENGINE STARTED TO "HESITATE AND SPUTTER." HE SAID THAT WHEN HE SWITCHED ON THE FUEL PUMP AND MOVED THE MIXTURE TO FULL RICH, THE ENGINE QUIT. HE CRASHED LANDED THE AIRCRAFT IN A FARMERS FIELD. THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED BY A POST CRASH FIRE. THE PILOT SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. ON ENGINE TEARDOWN, A BROKEN SHAFT TO THE ENGINE DRIVEN FUEL PUMP WAS DISCOVERED. IT IS UNKNOWN AT THE TIME, IF THE SHAFT FAILED IN FLIGHT, OR WAS BROKEN WHEN THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND. THE INVESTIGATION IS IN PROGRESS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DEN02LA012](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DEN02LA012), Nov 16, 2001: Cessna T210N (N210GB), Montrose, CO, destroyed. Probable cause: the loss of engine power during initial climb for undetermined reason. A factor was the lack of suitable terrain for a forced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
