## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT WAS OBSERVED, AT APPROXIMATELY 200 FEET AGL, TURNING FROM RIGHT BASE TO FINAL FOR A PRIVATE GRASS STRIP. THE AIRCRAFT WAS OBSERVED TO BANK SHARPLY, ESTIMATED BY A STUDENT PILOT WITH 200 HOURS FLIGHT TIME, IN EXCESS OF 60 DEGREES OF BANK. THE AIRCRAFT WAS OBSERVED TO POINT AT THE GROUND AND CRASH. INVESTIGATION OF THE CRASH SITE SUPPORTS WITNESS STATEMENT THAT AIRCRAFT DESCENDED IN A NEAR VERTICAL ATTITUDE TO THE GROUND. THE PILOT SUFFERED SERIOUS INJURIES DURING THE CRASH.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC02LA034](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC02LA034), Dec 5, 2001: Gillette Baby Ace (N916MG), Spencerport, NY, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain aircraft control during approach to the airport, which resulted in an inadvertent stall.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
