## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DURING FINAL APPROACH TO JAX, RUNWAY 7 AT 100' THE PIC BEGAN A MISSED APPROACH AFTER REPORTING TO AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL THAT HE "HAD AN INSTRUMENT PROBLEM." THE RADAR DATE SHOWS THE AIRCRAFT ASCENDING NORTH WEST TO 800' THEN DESCENDING TO 500' THEN ASCENDING TO 700' THEN DESCENDING TO 400'. AT 1947 HOURS THE AIRCRAFT CRASHED IN THE WOODS AND WAS DEMOLISHED. THE PIC AND 3 PASSENGERS SUSTAINED FATAL INJURIES. THE PILOTS INSTRUMENS WERE REMOVED BY THE NTSB FOR TESTING. DURING THE RECONSTRUCTION INVESTIGATION BY FAA AND NTSB, NO PREEXISTING MECHANICAL DEFICIENCIES WERE FOUND THAT WOULD HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB MIA02FA045](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/MIA02FA045), Dec 13, 2001: Piper PA-32-260 (N7701J), Jacksonville, FL, destroyed, 4 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot becoming spatially disoriented and losing control of the airplane during a missed approach resulting in the airplane descending uncontrolled and colliding with trees and the ground.

## Other reports on N7701J (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19940327016159I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19940327016159I), Mar 27, 1994: Piper PA32260 (N7701J), Bunnell, FL, Minor damage. Pilot landed with excessive speed. Left brake locked up. Veered left and departed runway. Nose wheel collapsed.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
