## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DURING A TRAINING FLIGHT, SHORTLY AFTER TAKE OFF (50'AGL), PILOT IN COMMAND HEARD A SOUND AS IF SOMETHING HAD HIT THE BOTTOM OF THE AIRCRAFT. PILOT REQUESTED A FLY-BY OF THE TOWER AND WAS INFORMED BY TOWER PERSONNEL THAT THE AIRCRAFT HAD LOST ITS RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR FROM THE UPPER STRUT HOUSING TO INCLUDE THE LOWER STRUT, BRAKE AND WHEEL ASSEMBLY. AIRCRAFT ORBITED AT 2000' MSL WITHIN 5 SM OF THE AIRPORT UNTIL FUEL IN THE RIGHT TANK WAS DEPLETED. AIRCRAFT SAFELY LANDED ON RUNWAY 10 AT 16:15. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO THE OCCUPANTS AND MINIMAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
