## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON DECEMBER 17, 2001, AT APPROXIMATELY 12:30 PM, PETER HEUBNER, HOLDER OF A PRIVATE PILOT CERTIFICATE BASED ON HIS SWITZERLAND PILOT CERTIFICATE NO. 20931, WAS THE PILOT OF HB-CHP, A FOREIGN REGISTERED CESSNA 172RG. UPON LANDING ON RUNWAY 18, OF THE UMATILLA REGIONAL AIRPORT, HE HEARD A LOUD BANG COMING FROM THE NOSE WHEEL AREA. HE PULLED BACK ON THE YOKE TO KEEP THE NOSE IN THE AIR WHEN ON THE SECOND TOUCH DOWN IS WHEN HE BELIEVES THAT THE NOSE STRUT BROKE. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE TO THE NOSE GEAR WHEEL WELL AND ENGINE PROPS. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. WINDS FROM 180 TO 190 DEGREES AT 5.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
