## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) A/C WAS DEPARTING LAS AND DURING CLIMB AT 280 KTS AFTER LEAVING FL250 THE A/C ENCOUNTERED A/F VIBRATIONS. THE A/C REQUESTED RETURN TO LAS AND DURING DESCENT AT 180 KTS THE A/C HAD A HARD ROLL TO THE LEFT WITH INCREASED VIBRATION. THE A/C WAS SAFELY LANDED AT LAS USING A HIGHER THAN NORMAL APPROACH SPEED. INSPECTION REVEALED THE LEFT OUTBOARD LEADING EDGE SLAT TRAILING EDGE DAMAGED WITH A 20 INCH SECTION APPROX 3 FT FROM THE OUTBD WING TIP GENT FWD AT A 90 DEGREE ANGLE WITH THE SLAT. ADDITIONALLY THE WING CLOSEOUT PANEL THAT THE SLAT RIDES ON WAS ALSO BENT BACKWARD AT A 60 DEGREE + ANGLE. DAMAGE APPEARD TO BE THE RESULT OF THE TRAILING EDGE OF THE SLAT CONTACTING THE WING CLOSEOUT PANEL AND RESTRICTING RETRACTION OF THE SLAT. THE APPARENT CAUSE OF THE CONTACT/BINDING IS UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
