## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ACCORDING TO MILLER FLYING SERVICE MECHANIC (DEWAYNE), THE NOSE GEAR HAS A SPIRAL SNAP RING INSIDE THE STRUT WHICH IS THE STOP FOR THE GEAR STRUT EXTENSION. DEWAYNE INDICATED THAT THE SNAP RING FAILED CAUSING THE NOSE GEAR STRUT TO FULLY EXTEND. THIS PREVENTED THE NOSE GEAR SCISSORS FROM OPERATING NORMALLY CAUSING THE STEERING TO BE HYPERSENSITIVE, ESPECIALLY AT HIGH SPEEDS. THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE RUNWAY. THE ONLY DAMAGE WAS TO A FLAP TRACK THAT WAS STRUCK BY A ROCK. NO OTHER DAMAGE TO AIRCRAFT. NO INJURIES. CONTACTED THE PILOT WHO CONFIRMED THE ABOVE INFORMATION.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
