## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE #1 ENGINE COWL WAS DAMAGED BY CONTACT WITH THE JETBRIDGE WHILE THE AIRCRAFT WAS BEING GUIDED TO PARK AT GATE 4, TERMINAL 9. INVESTIGATION ESTABLISHED THAT THE JETBRIDGE HAD BEEN POSITIONED IMPROPERLY OUTSIDE OF THE "SAFETY BOX" AND THAT THE "GUIDEMAN" AND HAD FAILED TO NOTE THIS FACT DURING PREARRIVAL INSPECTION OF THE GATE/RAMP AREA. THE FACT THAT A DEPRESSION IN THE RAMP CAUSED "PUDDLING" AROUND THE SAFETY BOX, OBSCURING THE JETBRIDGE OPERATOR'S VIEW OF THE SAFETY BOX BOUNDARY LINES, WAS A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
