## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JANUARY 19, 2002, AT 1109 CST, A CESSNA 172P, N5266K, REGISTERED TO STICK & RUDDER CLUB, INC., WAUKEGAN, IL DEPARTED THE WAUKEGAN AIRPORT, WAUKEGAN, IL ON A PART 91 FLIGHT PROVIDING FLIGHT INSTRUCTION TO A STUDENT. APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES INTO THE FLIGHT DURING CRUISE, THE ENGINE BEGAN TO RUN ROUGH. WITHIN SECONDS A LOUD BANG WAS HEARD AND BLACK SMOKE PUFFED OUT OF THE COWLING. THE AIRCRAFT MADE AN EMERGENCY LANDING IN A FIELD APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES FROM THE AIRPORT OF ORIGIN. THE AIRCRAFT DID NOT RECEIVE ANY DAMAGE. NO INJURIES. NO FIRE. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED. NOTHING FOLLOWS.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
