## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON FEBRUARY 16, 2002, AT APPROXIMATELY 7:15 P.M. EST, A PIPER PA-28R-200 N9302N LOST ENGINE POWER AND FORCE LANDED INTO TREES BETWEEN A HOUSING AREA AND A TRAILER PARK, WHICH RESULTED IN SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT. THE PILOT FLYING, JEFFREY LEVY, AND THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR, DAVID KROC, WERE NOT INJURED. THE PILOT WAS RECEIVING DUAL INSTRUCTION FROM THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR SINCE HE WAS NOT "NIGHT CURRENT". THE PILOT WAS ATTEMPTING AN UPWIND ENTRY TO RUNWAY 24, SHANNON AIRPORT (EZF), AND WHILE COMPLETING A "GUMP" CHECK, MOVED THE FUEL SELECTOR FROM THE LEFT FUEL TANK TO SOME POINT PAST THE RIGHT TANK DETENT, WHICH RESULTED IN ENGINE FAILURE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
