## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT STATED THAT HE ALLOWED THE HELICOPTER'S AIRSPEED TO DECREASE TO ABOUT 50 KNOTS AND IT LOST EFFECTIVE TRANSLATIONAL LIFT. THE HELICOPTER'S ALTITUDE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100 FEET ABOVE TERRAIN ELEVATION. THE PILOT ADDITIONALLY REPORTED THAT HE GOT BEHIND THE POWER CURVE, BEGAN DESCENDING, AND FELT THAT TO ATTEMPT A RECOVERY IN THE MOUNTAINOUS AREA WOULD HAVE UNCERTAIN RESULTS. THE PILOT MADE AN EMERGENCY LANDING, BUT BECAUSE OF THE UNEVEN TERRAIN, THE HELICOPTER DYNAMICALLY ROLLED ONTO ITS SIDE. THIS WAS NOT AN NMAC OR PILOT DEVIATION REPORTED BY ATC.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX02LA093](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX02LA093), Feb 24, 2002: Saumure Exec 162F (N162KS), Ramona, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain adequate airspeed and main rotor rpm while performing a low altitude maneuver, which resulted in a loss of translational lift, a hard landing, and rollover on downhill…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
