## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) IN THE PILOT'S STATEMENT, MR. FIFE INDICATED THAT WHILE HOVERING THE HELICOPTER BELOW THE TREE LINE, ALL WAS FINE. ONCE HE HAD INCREASED HIS HOVERING ALTITUDE A GUST OF WIND BLEW THE HELICOPTER TOWARD A WOODED AREA. HE WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE HELICOPTER FAST ENOUGH, THEREFORE THE HELICOPTER WAS TOSSED INTO THE TREES. AS THE ROTORBLADES HIT THE TREES MR. FIFE TURNED OFF THE POWER. THE HELICOPTER LANDED AND GOT HUNG UP ON SOME TREES AND VINES, CRASHING INTO THE GROUND UPSIDE DOWN.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC02LA067](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC02LA067), Mar 5, 2002: Brantly Helicopter B-2 (N2128U), Grove City, OH, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate compensation for wind conditions which resulted in an in-flight collision with trees. A factor related to the accident was the gusting wind conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
