## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON MARCH 16, 2002, N4348V HIT AN ELECTRICAL POWER LINE ON TAKE OFF. THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED. ACCORDING TO THE PILOT, THE TAKE OFF WAS NORMAL, EXCEPT FOR A SLOWER THAN USUAL CLIMB. THE AIRCRAFT WAS UNABLE TO CLEAR THE POWER LINE END OF THE RUNWAY, AND THE AIRCRAFT LANDING GEAR HIT THE TOP WIRE. THE AIRCRAFT CRASHED 150' FROM THE POWER LINE. THE AIRPORT IS A PRIVATELY OWNED ULTRALIGHT FIELD LOCATED IN ACCOMACK COUNTY, VIRGINIA. THE RUNWAY IS A 1300' LONG TURF WITH HOUSES AND A POWER LINE ON ONE END. THE RUNWAY SURFACE WAS SLIPPERY FROM RAIN AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. THE WRECKAGE WAS EXAMINED, AND NO EVIDENCE OF CONTROL OR ENGINE MALFUNCTION WAS FOUND. THE CONTROL CABLE CONTINUITY CHECK WAS SATISFACTORY. THE ENGINE WAS BROKEN OFF BY THE IMPACT. THE FUEL TANK WAS ALSO BROKEN OFF AND FUEL LEAKED OUT. THE AIRCRAFT IS A FISHER FP 202 KOALA AMATEUR WOOD CONSTRUCTION ENGINE ROTEX 447 2 CYCLE BUILT IN 1992. THE CURRENT OWNER PURCHASED IT IN THE SAME YEAR AND NEVER TRANSFERRED OWNERSHIP OR REGISTERED THE AIRCRAFT. HE THOUGHT HE WAS PURCHASING AN ULTRALIGHT VEHICLE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC02LA073](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC02LA073), Mar 16, 2002: Annis Fisher FP-202 (N4348V), Parksley, VA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's decision to continue the takeoff. A factor in the accident was the soft wet runway.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
