## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT MADE AN APPROACH TO RUNWA 34 USING A SLIP TO PRACTICE A X-W LANDING. THE AIRCRAFT WAS IN A NORMAL ATTITUDE THROUGH THE FLARE, BUT WITH THE ELEVATOR ONLY HALF-WAY BACK. THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED ABOUT 3 FET INTO THE AIR. THE PILOT STATED SHE COULD HAVE RELAXED HER RUDDER CONTROL BECAUSE THE NOSE OF THE AIRCRAFT VEERED OFF INTO A DITCH (FAA APPROVED RECENT CONSTRUCTION), AND AS THE RIGHT WING TIP CONTACTED THE GROUND, THE PROPELLER HIT AND TORQUED THE AIRCRAFT FROM NOSE TO TAIL, CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THE PILOT STATED THAT HAD THE DITCH NOT BEEN 32 FEET FROM THE RUNWAY, IT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN DAMAGED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA02LA056](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA02LA056), Mar 17, 2002: Cessna 120 (N77301), Deer Park, WA, substantial damage. Probable cause: Loss of directional control while landing. A drainage ditch was a factor.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
