## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 03/23/2002, AT 0630, AIRCRAFT WAS PARKED ON THE RAMP, WHEN FLAMES WERE OBSERVED EMITTING FROM THE #1 ENGINE ON START-UP. THE FIRE BOTTLES WERE DISCHARGED AND THE FLAMES WERE EXTINGUISHED. ARFF RESPONDED, THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO CREW OR PASSENGERS ON BOARD. ON 03/25/2002, MAINTENANCE CONTROLLER LORI SHAW CONTACTED THIS OFFICE IN REFERENCE TO THE INCIDENT. CONTROLLER STATED THE ENGINE DID NOT START DUE TO COLD WEATHER. THEREFORE, FUEL POOLED IN THE ENGINE CAUSING THE "SMOKE" FOR THE SECOND START. AT THIS POINT, THE FIRE BOTTLES WERE DISCHARGED. MECHANICS WERE DISPATCHED TO ALB TO INSPECT THE AIRCRAFT, NO DAMAGE WAS FOUND. AIRCRAFT WAS ISSUED A FERRY PERMIT FROM ALB TO YYZ. ADDITIONALLY, A COPY OF THE FERRY PERMIT WAS SENT TO FAA INSPECTOR ROLFE DINWOODIE (ROC). FIRE BOTTLES WERE REPLACED IN YYZ AND AIRCRAFT WAS THEN RELEASED FOR SERVICE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
