## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) UAL 154 WAS FOLLOWING ANOTHER UNITED FLIGHT TO THE GATE AREA. THE FIRST UNITED FLIGHT (UAL 260, A B-777, N797UA) REPORTED NO GATE AVAILABLE. INSTRUCTED TO HOLD IN THE "B" PAD. UAL 154 INSTRUCTED TO HOLD SHORT OF "B" BRIDGE UNTIL UAL 260 WAS IN THE PAD AND WAS SUBSEQUENTLY CLEARED TO THE GATE. UAL 154 STRUCK WINGTIPS WITH UAL 260, DAMAGING BOTH. UAL 260 WAS NOT FULLY WITHIN THE CONFINES OF THE "B" PAD. ITS NOSE WHEELS WERE APPROXIMATELY TWENTY FEET PAST THE "B" PAD HOLD LINE. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
