## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23)AIRCRAFT LIFTED OFF THE PAD UNDER LITTLE OR NO WIND CONDITIONS AND HEADED TOWARD THE RUNWAY FOR TAKEOFF WHEN THE WIND GUSTED AND CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO WOBBLE FROM SIDE TO SIDE. THE INSTRUCTOR TOOK CONTROL OF AIRCRAFT AND TRIED TO LAND BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL AND THE RIGHT SKID BROKE OFF AND CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO ROLE ON TO ITS SIDE DAMAGING THE ROTORS AND COCKPIT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW02LA104](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW02LA104), Mar 27, 2002: Hughes 269A-1 (N8942F), Fort Collins, CO, substantial damage. Probable cause: the flight instructor's failure to maintain control of the helicopter while hovering. Contributing factors were the tailwind and gusty wind conditions.

## Other reports on N8942F (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19760804024659A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19760804024659A), Aug 4, 1976: Hughes 269A1 (N8942F), Milagro, NM, Substantial damage. Pilot elected to make a landing at a service station beside highway. Hit powerline.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
