## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) WHILE FLYING POWER LINE PATROL AT AN ALTITUDE OF 11,000 TO ABOUT 12,000 FEET ASL (400 FT. AGL) ENCOUNTERED A DOWN DRAFT WHICH EXCEEDED THE PERFORMANCE CAPABILITY OF THE HELICOPTER. SUBSEQUENTLY THE AIRCRAFT CAME IN HARD CONTACT WITH THE SNOW COVERED GROUND.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DEN02LA036](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DEN02LA036), Apr 4, 2002: Bell 206B-III (N997GM), Leadville, CO, destroyed. Probable cause: the pilot's inadvertent flight into adverse weather, which resulted in a collision with terrain. A contributing factor was the downdraft.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
