## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON APRIL 8, 2002, A STARDUSTER SA-1, LOST CONTROL DURING LANDING ON RUNWAY 16 AT THE SHERMAN MUNICIPAL AIRPORT IN SHERMAN, TX. THE PILOT LOST CONTROL DURING THE LANDING AND ATTEMPTED TO STEER THE AIRCRAFT BACK TO THE RUNWAY WHEN THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK AN OPEN DITCH AND FLIPPED OVER ON ITS BACK. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST ABOUT 30 FEET OFF THE SIDE OF THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW02LA114](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW02LA114), Apr 8, 2002: McClung Starduster SA-1 (N2XM), Sherman, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's inadvertent use of unsuitable taxi terrain, which resulted in an encounter with a ditch while taxing from landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
