## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT WAS FATALLY INJURED WHEN THE AIRCRAFT FLEW INTO THE SIDE OF A MOUNTAIN WHILE FLYING FROM HICKORY NC TO BOONE NC. THE WEATHER WAS IMC AND THE PILOT WAS NOT INSTRUMENT RATED. AFTER THE CRASH THE RESULTING FIRE DESTROYED THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ATL02FA077](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ATL02FA077), Apr 8, 2002: Beech E35 (N3292C), Blowing Rock, NC, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's continued VFR flight in to known IMC, which resulted in an in-flight collision with trees in mountainous terrain. A factor was low ceiling.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
