## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) WHILE IN LEVEL CRUISE ENROUTE TO DULLES ONE OF THE PASSENGERS OBSERVED SMOKE FROM THE ENGINE. SOON AFTER PILOT OBSERVED ENGINE LOW OIL PSI LIGHT CAME ON. DECLARED EMERGENCY, WAS GIVEN HEADING TO FDK BY DULLES APPROACH, IT WAS 9 MILES DME. ENGINE PERFORMANCE DEGRADED DOWN TO 1800 RPM ON WAY TO FREDERICK, PILOT REDUCED POWER AND BEGAN LOOKING FOR PLACE TO LAND. ENGINE SEIZED, DEAD STICK LANDING IN FARM FIELD WITH NO FURTHER DAMAGE TO AIRCRAFT. NO INJURIES. ENGINE DAMAGE CONSISTENT WITH OIL STARVATION. #2 VACUUM PUMP GASKET FOUND BLOWN OUT, CAUSING LOSS OF ENGINE OIL. GASKET WAS CORK TYPE, WHICH WAS NOT THE APPROVED MATERIAL IN CURRENT CESSNA MAINTENANCE MANUAL.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
