## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON APRIL 19TH, 2002, AT APPROXIMATELY 1700 LOCAL A COMMERCIAL RATED PILOT WAS PRACTICING TAKE-OFF AND LANDINGS AT WAYNE COUNTY AIRPORT (BJJ) RUNWAY 28. THE PILOT HAD PREVIOUSLY ACCOMPLISHED 3 LANDINGS. THE PILOT WAS ATTEMPTING HIS 4TH LANDING WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE WIND CHANGED AND PICKED UP (LIKE A MICRO BURST). THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO KEEP THE PLANE ON THE RUNWAY (28) BUT THE WIND WAS TOO STRONG. THE PILOT APPLIED FULL THROTTLE TO ATTEMPT TO GET THE AIRCRAFT AIRBORNE, BUT THE WIND PICKED THE AIRCRAFT UP AND PUSHED IT ACROSS THE RUNWAY AND OVER A BANK. WHERE THE AIRCRAFT FLIPPED OVER AND CAME TO REST APPROXIMATELY 20 FEET TO THE LEFT OF THE RUNWAY. NOTE: AN UNFORECASTED LEVEL 6 THUNDERSTORM WITH TORNADO ACTIVITY PASSED 15 MILES FROM AREA AROUND 1700.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC02LA087](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC02LA087), Apr 19, 2002: Cessna 150H (N502MA), Smithville, OH, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control. A factor was the gusty winds

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
