## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT IN COMMAND JACK DURWENT BURNS AND ONE PASSENGER WERE DEPARTING POWDERLY AIRPORT RUNWAY 18 ON APRIL 22, 2002 AT APPROXIMATELY 1000 CDT TO CONDUCT A 14 CFR 91 LOCAL PLEASURE FLIGHT. DURING THE TAKEOFF PHASE, THE PILOT LOST DIRECTIONAL CONTROL AND THE AIRPLANE VEERED OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY INTO TALL GRASS AND SOFT MUD. RAPID DECELERATION CAUSED BY FRICTION BETWEEN THE CONVENTIONAL LANDING GEAR AND GRASS/MUD CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO NOSE OVER AND COME TO REST INVERTED. THE PILOT STATED THE PREVAILING WIND WAS EIGHT KNOTS FROM THE EAST AS DETERMINED FROM A NOAA WEATHER RADIO BROADCAST. BOTH PILOT AND PASSENGER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE LEFT WING, RIGHT WING, PROPELLER, ENGINE COWLING, ENGINE MOUNT, AND FUSELAGE IN THE WING ATTACH AREAS.
