## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 04/24/02, AT APPROXIMATELY 1400 CDT, A CESSNA 152, MEXICAN REGISTRATION XB-IAI, DEPARTED JONES AIRPORT, TULSA, OKLAHOMA ENROUTE TO ATHENS TX. THE AIRCRAFT IS OWNED BY MR. ALFERDO VELAZQUEZ, OPERATED BY MR. JOSE HERNANDEZ, A MEXICAN NATIONAL. THE AIRCRAFT WAS BEING EXPORTED TO MEXICO. A VFR FLIGHT PLAN WAS FILED AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS FOLLOWING ANOTHER MEXICAN REGISTERED CE-152. ACCORDING TO THE PILOT, IT WAS A CLEAR DAY IN TULSA, OKLAHOMA AND THE WEATHER CHANGED APPROACHING ATHENS. THE PILOT STATED THAT HEAVY CLOUDS MOVED IN AROUND ATHENS CAUSING THEM TO LOSE SIGHT OF THE LEAD AIRCRAFT AND SUBSEQUENTLY BECAME LOST. NOT BEING FAMILIAR WITH THE AREA, THE PILOT STATED THE HE HAD TO CIRCLE THE AREA SEVERAL TIMES LOOKING FOR THE AIRPORT CAUSING THE FUEL DEPLETION.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
